City of Armadale’s long standing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ray Tame capped off a stellar career and celebrated his transition to retirement last month, by receiving the Institute of Public Administration Australia, Western Australia Leader of the Year Working in Local Government award.
Tame was recognised for excellence in public administration and leadership over recent years, achieving significant strategic outcomes for the organisation, active leadership in supporting and fostering of other public sector professionals, and leading an organisation which is a leader in best practice in administration.
Mayor, Henry Zelones OAM JP, said the award was a fantastic achievement and well deserved.
“Ray has dedicated his career to Local Government, serving an astounding 47 years in the industry. His calm and considered demeanour, coupled with his unwavering leadership, has brought him much acclaim from his colleagues and the community.
“Ray has demonstrated strong commitment to the people of Armadale and the award is testament to this and his considerable passion for the City, which has seen the region achieve recognition and status as a fast growing Metropolitan Regional Centre both on a state and national level.
“He has had so many achievements and successes throughout his career, not only in Armadale but also in growth area local governments across Australia. What a legacy to leave the City with.”
Mr Tame said that his time at Armadale had been everything he expected it to be in 1995.
“It is has been a continually changing environment, where the City has become a leader in WA and is now recognised nationally as a champion of growth areas.”
