One of Australia’s fastest growing suburbs marked a major milestone recently when Liverpool City Council, New South Wales, opened a key route to the local train station.
A 1.35km stretch of Bernera Road (formerly known as Croatia Avenue) between Camden Valley Way and Edmondson Park train station, in southwest Sydney, was reconstructed and widened using more than 30,000 tonnes of recycled road base and asphalt.
The new four lane road provides fast, easy access through Edmondson Park to the train station.
Nearly $16 million of the total $35 million cost was funded by the New South Wales Department of Planning, with Liverpool City Council providing the balance.
About 1500 people turned up to celebrate the opening in May, enjoying a sunny autumn day and a tempting array of free entertainment and food.
The free sausage sizzle, coffee and ice cream proved hugely popular, with a steady stream of delights handed out to happy families throughout the four hour opening.
