Baker Boy opens youth festival

The City of Palmerston, with the support of the Northern Territory Government hosted the first ever Palmerston Youth Festival, to coincide with the July school holidays.

The Festival hosted nine free events over eight days, celebrating art, culture, sport, music, gaming, cinema and performance arts and included competitions and prizes that encouraged youth participation and community engagement.

2019 Young Australian of the Year and award-winning hip hop artist ‘The Fresh Prince of Arnhem Land’ Baker Boy, headlined the free Palmy Street Party on Saturday 20 July.

Mayor, Athina Pascoe-Bell, said the City of Palmerston was excited to work with Northern Territory Government on the inaugural Palmerston Youth Festival.

The popular Top End Geekfest marked the official opening of the Festival on Saturday 13 July, with the two new additions, Box Wars and the 3D Chalk Twins.

Other events included live theatre performances, stand-up comedy, street art workshops and demonstrations and an Anime-A-Thon movie marathon.

There were plenty of opportunities and incentives for young people to get involved, with a Suburb of Origin 3On3 Basketball competition, Extreme Sports Photo Competition and Break/freestyle Dance Battle.

The Rookie Cooks Youth Cooking Competition hosted by celebrity foodie adventurer Hayden Quinn, gave aspiring young chefs the opportunity to win the ultimate foodie day out with Hayden in his hometown of Sydney.
