The City of Greater Dandenong

The City of Greater Dandenong, also known as ‘The City of Opportunity’, has long been recognised as the capital of Melbourne’s southeast region.

Its location close to ports, railways, key arterial road networks and Melbourne’s CBD makes it a premier business location.
Not only is Greater Dandenong a vibrant and welcoming city of 140,000 people but it is also home to a thriving manufacturing and business sector.

It is one of the largest providers of employment in Melbourne’s southeast. The 13,000 businesses it accommodates employ more than 76,500 people.

Latest figures show 42 percent of Victoria’s manufacturing output is generated in Melbourne’s southeast.

Greater Dandenong also continues to be a major destination for commercial and industrial building investment in Victoria.
The city currently has more than 500 hectares of industrial land available for development.

This confidence has been further boosted by the State Government’s recognition of Dandenong as a significant region. Their investment of $290 million in the Revitalising Central Dandenong Project is expected to generate more than $1 billion in private development.
Locally, Greater Dandenong is an exciting multicultural community, with over half the city’s residents born overseas, 56 percent are  from non-English speaking countries and more than 150 nations are represented. This diversity brings a wealth of culture, faith, language, cuisines and knowledge, all of which are seen as a source of vitality and strength for the city.

Add to this our state-of-the-art industrial estates and thriving activity centres in Dandenong, Springvale and Noble Park and you have the foundation for a diverse and rapidly expanding economy.

Greater Dandenong is now recognised as a tourist destination, with arts, culture and diverse food offerings all being major drawcards.
Less than 30 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, Dandenong is home to some of Melbourne’s most celebrated cultural precincts. From Little India to the Afghan Bazaar and Dandenong Market, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to cuisine, produce and shopping.

Art lovers can also get their fix at Heritage Hill Museum and Historic Gardens and Walker St Gallery and Arts Centre. And for the theatre buffs amongst us you can enjoy first-class productions at Drum Theatre.

Similarly a visit to Springvale will awaken the senses and leave you wanting more.

Enjoy a complete unique Asian experience without the need for a passport.

Home to a melting pot of Asian cultures including fresh produce, authentic dining options and temples, a visit to Springvale could easily have you thinking you are in southeast Asia, rather than suburban Melbourne.

Greater Dandenong is a thriving community, a preferred residential address and a sought after business location. It boasts welcoming neighbourhoods and enjoyable leisure environments, based on strong partnerships and supported by well planned, integrated and sustainable services.

As an employer of choice, the City of Greater Dandenong offers a dynamic and rewarding environment for its staff. There is great diversity in the jobs and roles available, a rich array of professional development programs, corporate training, study assistance, flexible leave entitlements and family-friendly initiatives.
