Burra Skate Park becomes a regional play space

Regional Council of Goyder, South Australia, received $232,500 from the State Government to complete the Burra Skate Park making  the local community’s vision for a safe and inclusive play space for children and young people a reality.

The Burra Creek West Development (Burra Skate Park) will provide much needed connectivity between the green spaces, places and amenity of the Burra Creek area including the Burra Skate Park and play areas.

The Goyder Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) conducted community consultation attended by over 50 children and young people from Goyder YAC, Burra Community School and Burra out of school hours care service (OSHC).

The feedback provided assisted to develop the new concept for the play space.

Council recognised the need to engage local youth in future planning for youth spaces and from the outset Goyder YAC drove the project for the benefit of young people living in the Goyder area.

The project is due for completion in December 2020 and will include:

  • the completion of the current skate ramp to create better flow for users
  • creation of disability access to the space through ramps and natural trails
  • provision of shelter, natural shade, water fountains, seating and
  • a barbeque
  • encouragement of nature exploration through development of a nature play space and
  • development of children’s bike track and inclusive playground.
