Logan City Council has opened a new cycle park that helps teach road safety to children.
The circuit in Demeio Park in Marsden has been designed to look and feel like a roadway with 220m of pathway, line marking, road signs and a roundabout.
It also features mini versions of the iconic Logan River red bridge and the Gateway Bridge.
Councillor Laurie Koranski said the new cycle park had been constructed in partnership with Transurban Queensland.
“This collaboration has delivered a facility that is not only fun for kids today but could help save lives in the future.”
Deputy Mayor, Councillor Jon Raven, whose Division 5 includes Demeio Park, said the opening of the new cycle circuit was great timing as COVID-19 restrictions ease.
“The cycle park provides a safe space for kids to keep active and healthy while learning basic but very important road rules.”
Member for Woodridge, Cameron Dick, said it was good that construction of the cycle park had progressed during COVID-19, keeping Queenslanders in jobs.
“Keeping people working on essential community infrastructure will help us recover from the economic challenges of COVID-19.”
Transurban Queensland Group Executive, Sue Johnson, said with more kids riding bikes as a result of COVID-19, it was more important than ever to instil the safety basics.
“At Transurban we want motorists and cyclists to drive safely.
Learning road rules, including how to share the road and be considerate of others, often starts when you’re a kid riding a bike.”
