Crystal Brook is on the map

Crystal Brook is an idyllic country town in South Australia, with a strong community spirit but two major Port Pirie Regional Council projects are putting this peaceful town on the map.

A new nature playground has been constructed at Bowman Park, on the outskirts of Crystal Brook. Nature playgrounds are increasing in popularity and the Climbing Tree Nature Play designed space has been recognised as #2 in Nature Play South Australia’s Top 10 Best Adventure and Nature Playgrounds.

Bowman Park has its own magnificent history as a former fauna park and event space and this natural wonder has been revived since the Nature Play Space officially opened in June.

Bowman Park Nature Play Space is a collaborative project between Port Pirie Regional Council and the Bowman Park Management Committee and has been funded through the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program.

The playground features interactive structures and landscapes for children to explore such as pathways, log scrambles, build your own cubby, balance logs, treasure hunt, tunnels and soft fall.

Drive back into the heart of Crystal Brook and you will notice a major transformation in Bowman Street, the town’s main street and shopping hub.

The works are well underway and include new seating made from recycled timber slats, the installation of a new shelter in the centre median, bike racks, new irrigation and landscaping, kerb repairs and the resealing of the road and car parks.

These works have been made possible with funding from Port Pirie Regional Council’s Capital Works program, together with funding sourced from the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program Funding Round 2 and the State Government’s Places for
People program.

Crystal Brook’s nature playground and improved main street will draw on the great tourism benefits expected from the State Government’s $10 million Remarkable Southern Flinders project which will see the development of walks around nearby Napperby/Nelshaby that are set to be equivalent to the Grampians experience.
