Online Sports Expo kicks goals

Mackay City Council, Queensland, gone digital to help local clubs and sporting groups sign up new members via the Online Sports Expo.

The 11th Sports Expo and Sign-On event has gone completely online in 2021 due to COVID-19 event restrictions.

More than 1000 people visited the online portal in February, with local residents able to explore more than 90 sport and recreation options on their digital devices.

The Online Sports Expo also included eight pre-recorded active zone demonstrations and the videos proved very popular with the public.
Each video demonstration was available to watch on the online portal, but the videos were also shared on council’s Facebook page, with each video reaching more than 10,000 people and gaining more than 1000 views.

Council’s Sports Expo social media campaign reached more than 50,000 people, with 6000 post engagements from the public (likes, comments and shares).

As part of the Sports Expo, more than 30 free come-and-try events were held by local clubs during February, allowing the community to try a new sport or recreational pursuit for 2021.
