Alice Springs Town Council, Northern Territory, switched on the light towers at Albrecht Oval in time for the Imparja Cup opener on 15 February.
Mayor, Damien Ryan was pleased the significant project had reached its completion. “Albrecht Oval is now more accessible for our community as these lights allow for night training and competitions across a variety of sports and seasons.”
The Albrecht Oval light tower project cost $1.9 million with territory Government contributing $600,000.
Northern Territory Government Minister for Sport, Kate Worden said the Territory Government was investing in quality sporting infrastructure.
“We want to make sure right across the Territory our communities have access to the very best and up to date sporting amenities, which allows for sporting events such as the Imparja Cup opener to occur.
“Our investment into oval lights not only supported local jobs during installation, it also allows those involved in sport to take part in the game in the evenings, allowing for more opportunities for social and physical activity.”
Minister for Local Government, Chansey Paech said, “The Territory Government is proud to provide funding to councils so they can in turn support local projects such as the lighting upgrades at Albrecht Oval.
“I know the Alice Springs Town Council is committed to improving infrastructure and facilities that contribute to better, healthier lifestyles for the community and I congratulate them on their work.”
Mayor Ryan said, “This is another good example of the Alice Springs Town Council, NT Government, local contractors and sporting groups working together for the Alice Springs community.”
