Seniors across the Coffs Coast, New South Wales, who need help with their technology have the chance to learn new skills at Coffs Harbour Library branches with the help of local youngsters.
The free one-on-one sessions are funded through the State Library and connect tech-savvy teens from Youngster.co with technically challenged, older community members.
Bridging the gap between generations, the sessions not only empower elders to use technology better but also provide job opportunities and experience for young people in the area.
Youngsters are smart, local people who know about current technology and are happy to have a chat.
Mayor, Denise Knight, said, “I’m delighted to see an initiative that allows our young people to be employed doing something they enjoy while helping our older community members to become more technologically self-sufficient.
“As we’ve all become more reliant on technology for daily tasks and connecting with our friends and families, especially during the pandemic, it is important that we all have easy access to technological support and guidance.”
Over 20 minutes, seniors have the opportunity to have any specific questions answered to get the most out of digital devices including computers, tablet and smart phones.
It is hoped the service will enable seniors to better access everyday technology to use important services, conduct personal business and socialise.
