High school students visit Council

Ingham State High School Tourism Students.

Hinchinbrook Shire Council, Queensland, hosted year 11 and year 12 students from Ingham State High School last month, when they visited the Hinchinbrook Visitor Information Centre and wetland precinct – TYTO.

Council staff provided the students with relevant Hinchinbrook Way marketing material and gave insight into what is required to develop brochures, blogs and vlogs.

Students are currently studying Tourism which is offered as part of the applied senior curriculum and is designed, in part, to educate students on the importance of Tourism to the region. The current unit requires students to design marketing material and travel itineraries specific to the Hinchinbrook Shire.

Teacher at Ingham State High School, Georgina Elford, said, “It was great to be working with Hinchinbrook Shire Council staff to bring this opportunity to our students.

“The visit has given students greater insight into the focus of local tourism and the impacts of various marketing techniques on visitor numbers.”
