Event dedicated to the protection of people, property and communities

Emergency management has never been more prevalent than it is now. Keeping people safe is top of mind and the best scientists, policy makers and frontline leaders are set to converge in Adelaide to share the most informed ways to do it.

Connecting communities, creating resilience is this year’s theme for AFAC22, the long-standing emergency management conference and exhibition, is taking place 23-26 August in Adelaide.

Over the course of over four days, more than 90 presenters will share best practices and research focused on protecting people, property and communities.

Leading scientists, policy makers and leaders in emergency management will cover an array of related topics such as evacuation planning; disaster risk reduction; collaborating with multicultural communities in emergency management; the disaster fatigue of community leaders; lessons learned from recent Australian and international fire and flood events; the role of cutting-edge technology and tools; and many more.

“Climate change, unprecedented disaster events and the Covid-19 pandemic have made emergency management all the more prevalent in recent times,” said Rob Webb, CEO, AFAC.

“For public safety, it is vital that emergency personnel be ready and equipped to respond swiftly and effectively, and so too do councils. Knowledge and preparation are key.”

Keynote speakers include Dr Gill Hicks, Artist, Published Author, Musician and Award-winning Director/Producer; Mr Jim Pauley, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA); Dr Niki Vincent, Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner, Victorian Government; Dr Robert Glasser, Head of the Climate and Security Policy Centre, Australian Strategic Policy Institute; Michael Morgan, Chief Officer and Chief Executive, South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS); Lucas Pratchett, OAM, Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer, Orange Sky Australia and Nic Marchesi, OAM, Co-founder & Chief Delta Officer, Orange Sky Australia; Lloyd Damp, CEO, Southern Launch; and Dr David Crowder, Partner, DCCH Experts LLP.

Three conferences under one roof

AFAC22 will run in partnership with the Australian Disaster Resilience Conference and the Institution of Fire Engineers Australia (IFE) National Conference.

The Australian Disaster Resilience Conference will run over 24-25 August, focusing specifically on contemporary disaster resilience practice and research. Running concurrently on 24-25 August, IFE 22 will focus on key issues facing the fire engineering community with particular attention on the science and research of keeping these personnel safe.

Showcasing the future of emergency management innovation

Complementing the conference, AFAC22 trade exhibition will feature the most comprehensive range of emergency management related exhibiting organisations from all over the world. On show will be the latest and most exciting tools and technologies designed to help communities and organisations prepare and combat emergency events.

Visitors to the event will be able to view and experience the exhibition via a Demonstration Zone, Expo Stage and Knowledge Centre.

AFAC22 powered by INTERSCHUTZ will take place 23-26 August 2022 at Adelaide Convention Centre.

Local councils play an important role in any disaster. Be sure to attend the Conferences and Exhibition to keep up to date with the latest innovations.
