The City of Greater Bendigo is pleased to announce Rachel Lee as its new director strategy and growth.
Ms Lee joins the city following roles as executive director, Regional Integration and Bendigo Delivery at Victoria 2026, as executive director, Rochester Recovery Taskforce at Emergency Recovery Victoria and as regional director at Regional Development Victoria.
Ms Lee also has previous experience working at the city with roles in tourism, economic development and major projects, including her involvement in the Ulumbarra Theatre project, Edward Street Car Park development and Bendigo Airport runway.
Chief executive officer Craig Niemann said Ms Lee’s leadership style, engagement skills and experience collaborating with a range of stakeholders to deliver complex strategies and projects made her a strong candidate.
“Rachel has built a diverse career across industry, local and state government, and brings a wealth of experience managing large and small-scale projects in complex environments,” Mr Niemann said.
“She will bring strong partnerships with stakeholders, having experience in and collaborating with the various State Government departments that we regularly do business with and whose support we need to deliver for our community.
“Her familiarity with Local Government also means she can hit the ground running as we continue to progress projects such as the Bendigo Art Gallery development and Bendigo Regional Employment Precinct.
“Rachel’s involvement in regional development provides her with an excellent grounding in the growth that will occur in Greater Bendigo in the coming years and how the city’s strategies will drive that growth.
“We look forward to Rachel joining us next month and welcome her contribution to shaping the future of our city and region.”
Ms Lee said she was excited by the opportunity to return to Local Government.
“Having a deep passion for supporting the growth of Bendigo and the region, I am delighted to return to the city and deliver a range of programs that support the economy and community,” Ms Lee said.
“As a local, I am familiar with the wonderful attractions and experiences on offer and Bendigo’s reputation as a leading cultural and events centre in regional Victoria.
“I look forward to leading a high-performing team and supporting staff across portfolios like Bendigo Art Gallery, The Capital and Ulumbarra theatres, major events and tourism, the economy and planning.”
Ms Lee started at the city this month.
