A new year’s makeover is on the way for a number of City of Logan streets.
An extensive Logan City Council road resurfacing program gets underway in early 2024 and will cover 52 streets across multiple suburbs, predominantly in the city’s west.
They include Scott Ln at North Maclean – where Council installed a higher bridge and wildlife corridor in a $6.2 million upgrade last year – as well as Carter Rd at Munruben and Kenny Rd at Chambers Flat.
The works will ensure safer and smoother journeys for road users.
Potholes and other defects are repaired in the first stage, before the road is spraysealed and lines re-marked.
The program was finalised after an exhaustive identification process.
Vehicle-mounted sensors and cameras ‘scanned’ the streets to detect roughness and defects. Council engineers then went out on foot to inspect and assess where work was required.
Council will use about 40,000 tonnes of asphalt – enough to cover about 80km of road – in the program in 2024.
Infrastructure Chair Councillor Teresa Lane said it was important work for motorists.
“It’s the roadworks equivalent of repainting your house to protect it from the elements,” Cr Lane said.
“We do a huge amount on our 2,400km roads network every year to keep it in good shape for drivers.”
