Festival over but the mowing continues

The Lockyer Valley Council region might have just capped off an incredibly successful Laidley Spring Festival, but that doesn’t mean their Parks and Gardens crews will take their feet off the accelerator when it comes to making sure the outdoor spaces look their best.

Council’s Parks and Gardens Portfolio Councillor Anthony Wilson said Council crews were as committed as ever to the upkeep of local parks and gardens throughout the region.

“What a lot of people don’t realise is Council is responsible for 60 parks and reserves across the region, which covers more than 133 hectares.

“As a Council, we are committed to providing access to clean, accessible and safe green spaces and our crews work tirelessly to deliver this to our community.

“Crews not only mow, prune and perform regular maintenance, but also replant our gardens.

“They have just completed tree trimming at Murphys Creek Grounds, Tyson Park, Helidon, Lake Apex, Gatton and roadsides in Helidon, Forest Hill, Laidley, Blenheim and Grantham.

“Mowing throughout the region continues, and they have been busy spraying for fireweed, lantana and giant rats tail grass at our parks, roadsides, cricket ovals and cemeteries, planting new shrubs in Walter Brunner Park Gardens, Preston and garden bed maintenance in Gatton and Laidley.

“The maintenance of public furniture throughout the region is also important, with crews recently painting seats in the Laidley Mall, removing graffiti from Fairways Park, Kensington Grove and painting bollards around the Withcott toilet block.

“Our parks and gardens are much loved by our community as they offer a location for people to connect, hold celebrations, enjoy nature and relax.

“This clearly demonstrate Council’s commitment to providing and maintaining parks and open spaces for the recreation and wellbeing of everyone.

“They are free for us all to use and I hope to see many people spending time enjoying our parks and open spaces as the weather continues to warm up,” Cr Wilson said.
