Banana Shire Council has proudly received the LGMS Risk Management Excellence Award at the 2025 LGAQ Annual Conference, held on the Gold Coast
from 20–22 October.
The award recognises the Council’s approach to risk management throughout the delivery of the Moura Museum and Library Project.
The project represents a major capital investment, integrating the Moura Administration Office, Visitor Information Centre, Library, and the community’s
Mining Museum into a single, multifunctional facility. It now serves as a cultural and service hub for the Moura community.
Council’s risk management strategy was a key factor in the project’s success.
This included:
Extensive community and internal consultation
A comprehensive risk management plan
Careful design and cost considerations
Collaboration with LGMS to manage construction phase risks
Through proactive planning and stakeholder engagement, Council successfully reduced high-risk elements to a low-moderate level, ensuring the project was
delivered on time and within budget.
Mayor Nev Ferrier accepted the award on Council’s behalf, acknowledging the collective effort and commitment of all involved.
