Bondi Pavillion, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Bondi Beach

Mayors from across NSW are gathering at the Bondi Pavillion Thursday, 18 December, in a moment that symbolises the collective grief of communities across the state.

Waverley Mayor Will Nemesh extended an invitation to all Mayors to join him in laying tributes at the Bondi Pavillion, which has become an unofficial memorial to those killed in Sunday’s terrorist attack.

Mayor Nemesh said the show of love and support from fellow Mayors and the communities they represent was a source of great comfort at a difficult time.

“I know our entire community will be deeply touched by the presence of so many of my Mayoral colleagues – not just from across Greater Sydney, but as far as Byron, Tweed, Orange and Newcastle, to name just a few.”

President of Local Government NSW, Mayor Darcy Byrne said communities across NSW wanted to stand in solidarity with the people of Bondi and the Jewish community.

“Mayors are coming from every corner of the State to send a message of love and support for the people of Bondi, the Waverley Council and our Jewish brothers and sisters,” Byrne said.

“What happened on Sunday was an appalling and horrific act of antisemitism, of pure evil. But it will be countered with a wave of love and support and kindness from across NSW. ”

“The Waverley Council has such a sad and heavy burden to bare and we are here to make clear that they will not have to do that alone.”
