Totally integrated Council system

According to the City of Yarra’s Chief Financial Officer, Michael Sedgman, last December when Council selected Computron’s Financial Management System it was not just wanting a software supplier but a real business partnership which would run for the life of the system and beyond.

An inner urban Municipality of 66,000 people abutting Melbourne’s CBD, Yarra has invested in new systems as an outcome of its Information Systems Strategic Plan, known as ‘Yarra 2000’.

Using a ‘best of breed’ approach, Council is equipping itself to be a leading Municipality in the 21st century.

In addition to supplying financial software, Computron Software is managing the implementation to ensure a fully integrated solution for all Council’s systems. This system is set to go live on 1 July.

Specifically tailored to the needs of Yarra City Council, in addition to Computron’s financial management software, ProClaim’s property management system and Frontier’s ‘CHRIS’ Human Resources and Payroll system complete the suite.

“Using Computron’s TCR2000 for GST compliance was a very important part of Yarra 2000,” Michael Sedgman said.

“Having an automated Business Activity Statement (BAS) was an absolute requirement.”

He said that during the last six months of implementation there has been a very positive response from staff who have undertaken training at a functional level.

“This is a huge leap forward in technology through user friendly products,” Michael Sedgman said.

“Post implementation we are keen to extend e-commerce applications, utilising Computron’s functionality, as we see this as the way of the future.

“At the end of the day, it is all about improving our ability to serve our community.

“We will be able to manage vast amounts of data more efficiently, access timely, consistent and accurate information for analysis and forward planning, and be better equipped for decision making and resource allocation.”

In May, Australian Chief Financial Officers once again voted Computron Software as the number one vendor.

Conducted annually by Strategic Research, this survey of 500 Chief Financial Officers gathers information on organisations’ e-commerce and Internet strategies.
