Growth for Boonah

Two years of negotiation with a fertiliser company has paid off for Queensland’s Boonah Shire Council. Protein Fertilisers Pty Ltd, which is already supplying organic, non toxic fertilisers to an international market, is set to establish a $6 million factory. This has the potential to create 100 jobs in the Shire.

Mayor John Brent said that the factory represents a major new industry for the Shire. “Council understands about 20 new jobs will be created in the initial stages, and the Company estimates staff numbers will grow to about 100 within five years,” he said. “The plant represents a multi million dollar investment and is a strong sign of investor confidence in the area.”

Protein Fertilisers chose Boonah as the site for its new factory because of its strategic location in South East Queensland and the availability of a stable workforce with experience in rural industry. “The Shire is logistically well located for access to our raw materials and for market distribution,” said Company Director Frank Anvari.

He said the site is close to a major arterial road, close to raw material sources on the Darling Downs and North Brisbane and handy to the Port of Brisbane, enabling access to export markets.

“There are some highly skilled people living in the Shire and we believe we will be able to find almost all the skills we require within the local workforce,” he said
