Qld Safety Conference continues to grow

Caloundra has been chosen as the venue for the 4th Annual Queensland Local Government Workplace Health and Safety State Conference. The Conference will be held at the impressive Caloundra Cultural Centre on 23 and 24 March 1998.

Conference organiser, David Swan from the Local Government Association of Queensland said that the State Conference had built a solid reputation as the major health and safety event for the Local Government community.

“Continual growth of the Conference demonstrates the important role that it plays in Local Government’s commitment to providing safe workplaces,” he said. “It was not that many years ago that proactive workplace health and safety programs were primarily implemented by the larger urban Councils.

Now, Council officers from a broad range of Councils throughout the State attend the Annual Conference to seek out the latest information on health and safety management and protective technology.”

Topics to be covered at this year’s Conference include the following.

  • Managing contractors’ health and safety standards
  • Confined spaces standards for Local Government
  • Queensland Local Government Workers Compensation Self Insurance Scheme
  • Role of Local Government Competency Standards in Health and Safety
  • Sanitary standards for sewerage workers
  • Policies on provision of personal protective equipment.

The Conference format will consist of formal presentations and interactive workshops. As in previous years, there will also be an extensive Trade Exhibition featuring major health and safety manufacturers and suppliers.

While there is an undoubted Local Government focus, representatives from Government Departments and private organisations have found great value in attending.
