Coffs Harbour City Council has launched a phone application that keeps users updated on beach conditions in real time.
Following the success of the MyRoadInfo website and free apps developed to provide local roads information throughout northern New South Wales, a new MyBeachInfo system has been launched to keep Coffs Harbour locals and visitors instantly updated on beach conditions.
The free apps and website are easy to use. MyBeachInfo features a map of the coastline, which displays icons for beach openings, closures and cautions.
Users are able to set up favourite locations and receive notifications when their status changes.
The data is updated instantly by Council’s Lifeguards to reflect current known conditions on our beaches.
“MyBeachInfo is a fantastic tool that is really going to help us promote beach safety,” said Greg Hackfath, Council’s Team Leader Lifeguard Services.
“Reaching the thousands of tourists who visit our region every year is a constant goal for Lifeguards, Surf Lifesavers and the emergency services. It’s a fact that it’s often the overseas visitors who can get into serious trouble in the surf because they don’t understand the dangers.
“The MyBeachInfo site and apps can be instantly translated into 90 languages with one click, which is brilliant.
“We’d urge all local tourism operators to promote MyBeachInfo to visitors.”
MyBeachInfo also provides links to other beach information such as patrol times and dates, as well as a link to the existing Surf Life Saving Australia’s beach safe website.
