Mayor encouraged by Premier support for regional projects

This month, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk visited the Maranoa on a whirlwind tour of the State’s Central West and announced $70 million in funding available for regional infrastructure projects throughout Queensland.

Along with Minister Bill Byrne and Wild Dog Fencing Commissioner Mark O’Brien, the Premier visited the Roma Airport, Saleyards, Hospital and Council Chambers as well as attending a meeting with local landholders in Hodgson to discuss wild dog fencing.

The Premier was interested in hearing about projects across the region that could commence construction quickly. Keen to take advantage of this, Council took the opportunity to discuss the region’s major projects that need support through State Funding.

Mayor Tyson Golder said it was fantastic to host Premier Palaszczuk’s tour of Roma and to have the opportunity to talk to her about key issues and projects important to the region.

“During a meeting at the Council Chambers, we had the opportunity to discuss a few key shovel-ready projects that are set to benefit the Maranoa and increase local jobs for the long term. I also raised with the Premier that I would like to see the oil and gas industry in the Maranoa encouraged to live and buy locally,” Cr Golder said.

“Premier Palaszczuk praised the already completed Roma Airport upgrade, which was funded in part by the State Government, and showed her support during the tour for the State’s redevelopment of the Roma Hospital.

“I implore the State Government to continue to show support for regional Queensland and I’d like to thank Premier Palaszczuk for taking the time to visit our prosperous region.”
