At the Save Our Councils Coalition rally on Sunday, all the major opposition parties committed to put party politics aside to help the new Berejiklian government quickly reverse all forced council mergers.
Peter Primrose from Labor, Fred Nile from the Christian Democrats, Robert Borsak from the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers and David Shoebridge from the Greens all committed to put New South Wales (NSW) communities first, and support expedited legislation in the NSW Parliament – bringing an immediate end to forced mergers.
Carolyn Corrigan, President of Save Our Councils Coalition said, “The process of forced amalgamations has been a tortuous sham, but the process to undo the mess can be quick and simple – if the government is at last willing to recognise it’s error and listen to communities.”
The rally was held at the North Shore electorate office of former Minister Jillian Skinner, where there will shortly be a by-election following her recent resignation. Community democracy will be a pivotal issue in this election.
