New Local Government Minister for Queensland

In a cabinet reshuffle, a new Local Government Minister has been appointed in the Queensland Palaszczuk Government.

Ferny Grove MP Mark Furner will take on the portfolio, alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, who formerly held the Local Government role, will become Transport Minister as well as retain the Infrastructure and Planning portfolio.

Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) President Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said he looked forward to working with Mr Furner and thanked Ms Trad for her service.

Mayor Jamieson said the LGAQ and councils also looked forward to continuing their relationship with Ms Trad in relation to planning and infrastructure projects.

“Local councils have demonstrated their understanding of where this Government wants to take the State and we are enthusiastic about partnering with the Premier and her Cabinet team to ensure Queensland goes from strength to strength,” Mayor Jamieson said.
