Locals become face of city

Frankston City Council in Melbourne is supporting local traders during sinfrastructure improvements through the Faces of Frankston campaign.

The Victorian Government is investing $63 million to revitalise the Frankston Station precinct, which includes rebuilding Frankston Train Station and improving the adjacent Young Street area to create a more pedestrian friendly environment.

The aim of the Faces of Frankston campaign is to help support traders during the works and ensure ongoing tourism to the area by putting a local focus on the heart of the city centre.

International photographer Richard Simpkin’s Locals of Frankston exhibition at Frankston Arts Centre in September and October 2017 brought together a collection of images featuring local traders and students, showcasing Frankston as a lifestyle choice.

These images have also been displayed, along with links to the stories behind the faces, on visitfrankston.com as well as frankstonfaces.com.

People travelling by train between Frankston and Melbourne CBD also saw the many friendly faces along their journey through on-board posters and a billboard at Mentone Station.

In partnership with the State Government, the campaign’s Business as Usual component promotes local businesses with advertising in local newspapers, on social media and a poster campaign.

There are also special offers available for the duration of construction encouraging visitors and residents to shop locally.

From November, a Business as Usual brochure – jam-packed with local shopping tips – will be available to pick up from stands at major events, the Frankston Train Station Revitalisation Hub and at Council Service Centres.

Even with works temporarily disrupting the streetscape, pedestrian access has stayed open and the Faces of Frankston serves to highlight the range of fantastic shopping, dining and visitor experiences available.

This ongoing vibrancy of the city is thanks to the tens of thousands of people who live work and study in the area. The Faces of Frankston campaign aims to celebrate the richness and diversity of these people.
