Infrastructure plan for highly livible corridor

The New South Wales Government has released a draft of four major future road and rail infrastructure corridors which they say will help establish the Western Sydney Parkland City.

Minister for Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres, said, “Western Sydney is at the forefront of the biggest infrastructure delivery program in history and for once, we are in the fortunate position of being able to plan and deliver the roads and rail lines this future city needs, first.”

The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) has welcomed the release of the region’s long term transport corridors.

WSROC President, Cr Stephen Bali, said, “Western Sydney has been waiting for this announcement for decades and we are very glad to see lines finally drawn on a map.

“Knowing the location of future transport corridors is critical for local government’s strategic planning. With greater certainty, councils can make more informed decisions, and achieve better outcomes for the community.

“Validation of the strategic transport corridors cannot occur in isolation from the development of local transport plans in support of sub-regional or precinct masterplans.

“To achieve the best outcomes, we need to make sure everyone – government, councils, industry and landholders – are investing their time and resources in a way that supports the vision for this region.

“The North-South rail corridor for instance will open up opportunities to plan commercial centres, schools, health facilities and villages within a walkable distance to public transport; creating a highly liveable corridor that could easily accommodate over half a million people within walking distance of a railway station.

“Done well, this could have flow on effects for every aspect of liveability.”
