Healthy and happy wellness challenge

Blaney Shire Council, New South Wales (NSW), is making it easier for residents to enjoy a healthier lifestyle with improvements to walking trails and the installation of outdoor fitness equipment in time for the Blayney & Villages Healthy & Happy Wellness Challenge.

Mayor, Scott Ferguson said, the Healthy & Happy Wellness Challenge is not just about weight loss.

“It’s also about encouraging everyone to become more active in their local community groups – be it social or sporting.

“There are huge benefits both physically and mentally that come from engaging more with those around us.

“The success of the initial program last year, helped Blayney Shire Council secure $15,000 in funding from the NSW Office of Preventive Health and the National Heart Foundation and through the Blayney Village Enhancement Program, an additional $15,000 was provided to enable the purchase of 12 new pieces of outdoor fitness equipment.

“This equipment has now been installed around Blayney, connected by a series of three new walking trails at distances of 1km, 3km, 5km starting at CentrePoint to motivate people on their health journey.

There are plenty of activities being organised for all fitness levels and age groups around Blayney & Villages to support the three month challenge including; fitness classes, teen gym, Kids Fit crèche for child minding at CentrePoint, walking groups and a Health Expo hosted by Blayney Multipurpose Centre to provide information about mental health awareness, stop smoking, diabetes awareness and much more.

The CentrePoint Sport and Leisure 25 metre indoor pool has reopened after initial upgrade works in time for the challenge.
Health checks are back at the Blayney Farmers’ Markets and Bernardi’s Marketplace will be hosting a guest chef healthy cooking demonstration every Friday afternoon with free taste testing.
