Internal innovation

Bounce – City of Canning’s internal innovation program.

The City of Canning, Western Australia, is calling for all of its employees to think bold and share ideas that add value as part of its new innovation program – Bounce.

Launched by City of Canning’s Innovation team, Bounce is a program designed for City employees to embrace technology, capitalise on in-house expertise and cultivate a culture of innovation to generate creative ideas that solve business challenges for the Canning community.

Bounce consist of monthly workshops where guest speakers from a variety of industries share lessons and failures to inspire employees, ‘lunch and learn’ sessions and an online collaboration platform – Launchpad – to bounce ideas around with other employees and access resources to help solve business challenges.

City of Canning Chief Executive Officer, Arthur Kyron, said thinking bold is at the heart of the City’s vision of being a welcoming and thriving city.

“Innovation is defined as change that adds value and Bounce gives employees the capabilities, skills and knowledge to challenge the status quo, take risks and think creatively to develop solutions that benefit our 90,000 residents and 8,000 businesses.”

With a commitment to harnessing innovation, the City of Canning recently secured $1million in Federal Government funding for the Wharf Street drainage basin that will see it developed in to a Smart Park – the Wharf Street Next Generation Community Park.

The City has partnered with Water Corporation, Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, Curtin University – Centre for Sport and Recreational Research, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and Innovation Central Perth to deliver the Wharf St Basin project.

Local Government Minister David Templeman congratulated the City of Canning for the initiative and said the program would boost innovation at the City.

“This is a wonderful example of local government working to improve the way in which they do business for the benefit of the community.”
