National Simultaneous Storytime

Australia’s largest storytelling session was held today, Wednesday May 27, with a picture book read simultaneously at over 3000 locations throughout the country.

The ‘National Simultaneous Storytime’, an initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association, is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.

Maranoa Regional Council invited Children under 10 and their parents to the Roma, Injune, Mitchell, Surat and Jackson libraries to listen to the amusing story about sibling rivalry entitled ‘The Brothers Quibble’ by Aaron Blabey,

Councillor Peter Flynn, Portfolio Chair for Events and Community Development said it is a great chance for Maranoa kids to get involved in an Australia-wide event.

“This initiative encourages kids from both rural and metropolitan communities to celebrate literature and to help foster a life-long love of reading.

“This year’s book, written by award winning author and illustrator Aaron Blabey, The Brothers Quibble, is a funny and enjoyable read which is sure to be entertaining for the whole family.”

Community Librarian at Port Augusta City Council John Timoney also encouraged local residents to attend.

“The annual National Simultaneous Storytime is Australia’s biggest story telling session and in Port Augusta, children will have the opportunity to hear and enjoy the story either at the Library or at any of Port Augusta’s participating primary schools, kindergartens or day care centres.”
