Connected councils creating vibrant communities

The Mid North Coast Regional Organisation of Councils (MIDROC) is a group of eight councils, mayors and general managers, from Gloucester to Coffs Harbour in New South Wales, who meet regularly to determine the strategic direction of the region.

MIRDOC also responds to state and federal policies that impact on the area, with the primary vision of the group the creation of a ‘connected region, with strong councils and vibrant communities’.

Interim Chair of MIRDOC, Mayor of Kempsey Shire, Councillor Liz Campbell, said that, “Together we represent over 300,000 people on the Mid North Coast and we are predicted to be the fourth fastest growing region in the state over the next 20 years.

“One part of a strong united MIDROC will be to attract resources to the region and act as the primary advocacy group for the regional community.

“With the NSW Government undertaking a review of how local government operates, now is the time to look for new opportunities and new ways to deliver services to local communities within our region,” said Cr Campbell.

MIDROC has recently adopted a new constitution to provide for an improved strategic alliance between member councils, and the group is committed to finalising a Strategic Plan early in 2013.

“We have an opportunity to influence the direction in which the Mid North Coast heads in the future, through a strong united voice for the people in our region,” concluded Cr Campbell.
