The seventh National Local Government Asset Management and Public Works Engineering Conference, auspiced by the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) and Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia, will be held at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne on
13 and 14 May 2010.
These conferences have proven to be an outstanding success, driven by high quality speakers and excellent representation from councils around Australia.
There is now a new national agenda driving Local Government asset and financial management, with a number of significant initiatives at the Federal level, supported by State Governments, which will impact on individual councils in terms of reporting and funding. This process follows the comments by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd at the 2008 Australian Council of Local Government meeting, where he called for an improved and consistent approach to asset and financial management by Local Government.
This 2010 conference will cover a range of key issues of direct relevance to councils including:
- national directions in Local Government
sustainability and the implications for asset
management, including regional asset
management initiatives - the new national asset and financial management
assessment framework - new infrastructure standards
- ensuring asset management is driven by
identified community service levels - sustainable development
- transport planning: larger trucks
- numerous ‘good practice’ case studies
- identifying common challenges for asset
managers, including sourcing and developing
staff.
The conference will be participatory in nature and attendees will have opportunities to engage in interactive discussion with presenters on a variety of topics. The two days of the conference will provide essential knowledge for Councillors, CEOs and a range of infrastructure, asset, finance and service managers who need to have a strategic understanding of this complex function.
