Footpaths made safer*

Footpaths! Something we all use and take for granted, but something councils receive a lot of complaints about and can be costly to maintain.

Continuous concrete paths have become the norm and most people wouldn’t think twice about possibly the most important component in a path until they trip over it – the joint.

Poor jointing of paths can lead to cracking, displacement, sand jacking and weed growth, making the path dangerous and unsightly – and these are the main reasons for maintenance and litigious costs being higher than they need to be.

However, many councils around Australia have reduced their costs considerably, while also reducing the number of complaints they receive about damaged paths. By using a preformed interlocking joint called Lock Joint™, councils are seeing greatly improved performance in their footpaths and cycleways and are making considerable savings in their maintenance. Weed control costs are also reduced because of the unique sealing system used by Lock Joint.

The product comes cut to length and with the seal already on it. It is easy to install and concreters quickly get used to including Lock Joint in their work as it improves the quality of a path, meaning less comeback on them for faults.

Pedestrians are no longer tripping over displaced joints and cyclists are enjoying riding on a more level surface.

After many frustrating years, councils now using Lock Joint are anticipating a longer lifecycle for their paths, which continue to look good and have become an area of much less concern.
