Human Resources and Training Managers working in Local Government are encouraged to use TAFE NSW’s employer services and talk to TAFE NSW about their organisation’s specific training needs. Training with TAFE NSW is not just about accredited qualifications. Many organisations have programs customised to their specific needs.
For example, to increase the relevancy to your staff, programs may incorporate the actual processes or systems used by your organisation.
TAFE NSW has a network of ten institutes across New South Wales, and all offer a variety of employer services.
Penrith City Council is one New South Wales council working with TAFE NSW’s Western Sydney Institute.
TAFE NSW is providing training in business administration, information technology, horticulture, construction, children’s services and hospitality, which are offered as traineeships at Council.
“What is great about working so closely with TAFE NSW – Western Sydney Institute is that we are able to communicate and tailor the training to our organisational needs, so our staff develop skills in the areas most needed,” said Penrith City Council’s Learning and Development Officer Diane Bullivant.
“We are extremely happy with the results we have achieved with our Traineeship Program over the past few years.”
TAFE NSW offers flexible delivery options, including workplace delivery, face to face training, distance and online. In fact, over 30 per cent of TAFE NSW course delivery is outside of the classroom.
In 2011, TAFE NSW and NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet will offer targeted training opportunities for Local Government personnel through the 2011 TAFE NSW Public Sector Training Program.
Topics include mentoring, coaching, project management and leadership.
The skills and knowledge participants gain will not only contribute to a more sustainable workforce, but will benefit individuals seeking to strengthen their career prospects.
