Sutherland Shire a hub for arts and culture

Sutherland Shire Council is instrumental in supporting the arts and culture operating two major facilities – the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre and the Sutherland Entertainment Centre.

Complementing this, the Shire’s natural beauty means it is a magnet for many well known Sydney visual artists.

Former Archibald Prize winner Gary Shead, internationally acclaimed painter, Jai Wei Shen and palette-knife painters Otto Kuster and Jim Flood, are among the artists who live in the Shire.

The Hazelhurst gallery attracts national and international exhibitions, and is also home to a community gallery where the work of members of the community is showcased regularly.

The Sutherland Entertainment Centre offers an ongoing quality entertainment program as well as providing a venue for large-scale community events.

Underlining council’s support to culture and the arts Sutherland Shire Council hosts 17 annual events each year attracting around 46,000 people.
