Rural revolution summit draws 200+

Whether it’s around economic development, food, transport or young people, things are evolving in country Victoria and this year’s Rural Councils Victoria (RCV) Rural Summit is all about how things are continuing to change.

With guest speakers including Bernard Salt, Dr John Prince, Michael McAllum and Sandra Slatter, and with Victorian councils showcasing their solutions to common problems, the Summit presents many opportunities for sharing information and learning.

RCV Chair, Councillor Rob Gersch said that over 200 people will attend the annual Rural Summit, which is to be held this year in Lakes Entrance on the 2nd and 3rd of May and has the theme — The Rural Revolution: challenging thinking on partnerships, planning and productivity.

“As well as highlighting innovative approaches to the problems rural councils face, the Summit in itself has an economic development impact from bringing all these people together for two days,” said Cr Gersch.

“Now is the time to book your ticket and your accommodation. The Rural Summit attracts delegates from government, leaders of business and industry and economic and community development practitioners from local government.

“We are very pleased with the program this year. It really covers a broad range of subjects, which reflects the nature of local government and rural communities and aligns with RCV’s role as collaborators on the Victorian government’s reform agenda for small towns.”

Rural Councils Victoria (RCV) is the ‘go to’ group for resources, information and data on Victoria’s rural councils. It delivers projects that provide support and solutions on issues faced by the state’s 38 rural councils as well as highlighting rural issues at other levels of government.

The Rural Summit is proudly supported by Rural Councils Victoria with funding from the Victorian Government’s $3.3 million Networked Rural Councils program.
