Planning for major events

The Australian Institute for Traffic Planning and Management (AITPM) will hold its 1997 National Conference at the Hotel Sofitel in Melbourne on 5 and 6 June. Titled ‘Major Events – Traffic & Transport Planning’, the Conference is expected to attract delegates from across Australia. It will examine the countless demands placed on organising committees in staging such events.

Whether it is a street festival, triathalon, or a Grand Prix, ‘Major Events’ by necessity involve the mass movement of people in very short peak periods of activity. Extreme demands are placed on parking, road networks, public transport and the infrastructure a developed society demands.

Technical sessions will be aimed at improving skills in event strategies, project implementation, coordination, budget negotiations, risk management, safety auditing, contingency planning, legal liabilities, mass people movement and living with the environment.

Delegates and presenters will represent State Road Authorities, Police and Emergency Services, Public and Private Transport Operations and Regulators, politicians from all levels of Government and Event Managers. Attendance at this National two day Conference is essential if you practice any of the relevant professions, or simply want to enlighten yourself on all the processes involved in successfully staging a major event.

For further information contact the convenor, David Kroll on (03) 9265 4279.
