Recycling paper and cardboard made easy *

With the Australian community’s commitment to recycling one of the highest in the world, Councils or their contractors are collecting huge volumes of waste paper and cardboard. To assist in this process, Inverell Shire Council in northern NSW is experiencing the benefits of a Trethewey Industries HD 200A Autobaler.

The Autobaler, which has been incorporated in Council’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF), is baling approximately 10 tonnes of cardboard and paper per week.

Council’s Manager Environmental Services, Tim Russell, commented that the Autobaler had been working all day every day since its installation in September 1999, with only minor teething problems that were immediately attended to by Tretheweys.

“The Autobaler offered substantial savings in capital cost over other comparative equipment and required less space,” he said. “There had been no staff complaints or accidents with the Autobaler as it is simple to operate. Even new or part time staff are quickly familiarised with the full automatic operation.”

Autobaler operator at the Council Material Recovery Facility, Anthony Schutz, said that the baler was safer than any other equipment he has used. He added that the automatic activation of the baler when the hopper is full makes it perfect for filling from bins via a fork lift.

This is because the operator of the fork lift does not have to dismount to start the baler.

Trethewey’s have a three model range of Autobalers suitable for cardboard volumes of between two to 20 tonnes per week.
