Free seminars in Leading Practice in Local Government

Leading Innovative Practice in Local Government is coming to a region near you as part of a series of free seminars designed to provide councils with the opportunity to learn from creative winners of the 2000 National Awards for Innovation in Local Government.

In response to requests from Local Government, the seminars will be run as a partnership between the National Office of Local Government, organisers of the Awards, and a host council.

Seminars will cover leading edge practice in the fields of:

  • Business and Regional Development;
  • Engineering, Infrastructure and Urban Design;
  • Community Services;
  • Environment;
  • Health Services and Aged Care;
  • Organisational Practices;
  • Support for Remote Communities; and
  • Youth Services

Seminars will not only allow you to learn from leading local practitioners to apply in your own situation. An important component will be the attendance of sponsors of the Awards who will outline how councils can access Commonwealth Government Programmes for Local Government.

As a result of a brochure calling for expressions of interest from councils and Local Government organisations which was sent out along with the 2000 Guide to Leading Practice, host spots are filling up fast. Costs will be covered and hosts can nominate their preferred topics.

NOLG is interested in councils, Regions of Councils or Local Government Associations wishing to host a seminar, and those interested in attending.

Seminars already in train include:

  • Local Government Association of Tasmania in Launceston on 26 Feb
  • Western Australian Municipal Association in Armadale on 8 & 9 Mar
  • Cairns Council on 15 & 16 Mar
  • Illawarra Regional Organisation of Councils on 15 & 16 May

Seminar locations and dates will be finalised by 16 March 2001 and posted on the NOLG website at www.nolg.gov.au.

If you would like to attend a seminar contact Geoff Ahmet telephone (02) 6274 7721 or email geoff.ahmet@dotrs.gov.au

If you want to host, you can also register your interest by the 16 March.
