Providing solutions for community sport
The Australian Sports Foundation

The Australian Sports Foundation

If you require funds for sports equipment, sport facilities or sending teams to National Championships, the Australian Sports Foundation has solutions.

The ASF is a Federal Government organisation committed to improving opportunities for all Australians to participate in sport.

The ASF offers Councils and non profit organisations the opportunity to work with, and tap into the generosity of their communities to raise funds for major facility projects.

Since 1986 many organisations have partnered with the ASF to raise funds by offering tax deductibility for donations.

Councils and community organisations can register to conduct fund-raising campaigns under the umbrella of the Foundation and are entitled to promote the Foundation’s tax deductible status.

Under taxation law, donors have the option of nominating approved projects as their preferred beneficiary.

The ASF has granted over $65m to sporting and community organisations since 1986; the vast majority of it for sports facility projects.

Recent examples of Councils and organisations benefiting from the support and expertise provided by the ASF include.

Illawarra Hockey & Sports Foundation – year round indoor and outdoor hockey facility

The Illawarra Hockey & Sports Foundation first registered with the ASF in 1996 and has successfully raised over $350,000 from about 140 of its hockey playing members and supporters. This enabled Illawarra Hockey Incorporated to develop two synthetic, water based outdoor hockey fields at the Lindsay Maynes Park in Wollongong, NSW.

Shire of Katanning regional sport and recreation facility

The Shire of Katanning in regional WA, first registered their project with the ASF in 1994, aiming to raise $1.1m to contribute to the development of the facility.

Katanning was even more successful collecting over $1.052m predominantly through pledges from community groups, businesses and individuals payable to the Council over three years; and in kind volunteer assistance in goods and services for the building and furnishing of the centre.

Taree City Council and the Manning Swim and Leisure Committee – community aquatic and leisure centre

With assistance from the ASF the Greater Taree Council in regional NSW in partnership with a community fundraising body, the Manning Swim and Leisure Centre Inc, raised more than $200,000 in donations to support a $6m state of the art aquatic and leisure centre.
