Clean and green outback oasis

Far from being an ‘outback desert’ city, Kalgoorlie-Boulder is becoming a place that is also ‘clean and green’ with parks, natural bushland and a flora and fauna reserve. This is often of surprise to the many tourists to the region.

Hammond Park is the Council’s flora and fauna reserve on Memorial Drive and is a popular attraction for tourists and residents alike. The Park is fenced off and operates from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm during the summer months and from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm during winter. Recently a heritage restoration project saw a famous old bandstand rotunda repainted, restored and located into Hammond Park.

A grand opening was held in December as part of Centenary of Federation celebrations to welcome the rotunda to the park.

Arboretum is a local park land administered by the Department of Conservation and Land Management and features over 100 trees representative of the species found in the Goldfields. It includes a dog training and exercise area, water features and picnic areas.

Loopline Park is adjacent to the Loopline Railway in Boulder, an open area and popular venue for the monthly Boulder Market Days.

Neighbourhood parks have been established and are maintained by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. They include new and innovative ideas with play equipment and recreational centrepieces within new housing subdivisions.
