Community Jobs Project at Banyule

Banyule City Council’s Community Jobs Project ended in December 2001 with the launch of ‘The Essentials – Youth Support Pack’ produced by 13 young local participants.

The 16 week employment program was funded by the State Government of Victoria ($120,000), Department of Education, Employment and Training, and was sponsored by Banyule City Council in partnership with a range of community organisations.

Banyule City Council employed and trained 13 youths to improve relationships between young people and business, industry and the Banyule community. As well as learning computer, office and job hunting skills the participants produced the Youth Support Pack, which includes a resource booklet and computer diskette containing a resume template, sample job application letter and a pro forma budget.

The pack will give young people effective information about services and employment options. Banyule Mayor Councillor Colin Brooks presented certificates to the graduates and thanked them for their Youth Support Pack which he said would be a valuable community resource.

The project is sponsored by many organisations and individuals, including diyLIFE, Greensborough RSL, Sarina Russo Job Access, the Diamond Valley Learning Centre, Granada Television and Banyule City Council.
