Pine Rivers wins back to back annual report award

Pine Rivers Shire Council’s 2000-2001 annual report has been judged the best in the Queensland Public Sector for the second year in succession. The back to back win was announced recently by the Queensland Deputy Premier and Treasurer, Terry Mackenroth.

Pine Rivers made the breakthrough last year becoming the first Local Government in the 20 year history of the Institute of Internal Auditors Awards to take out the overall prize.

Judges stated that the current report, “…was even more impressive this year, and readily connects to its wide range of readers.”

Council also picked up an Award of Excellence, the Pricewaterhouse Coopers award, for the best Local Government report in Queensland and an award for the Most Readable Annual Report. The report was nominated for seven out of the ten special categories.

Accepting the award, Council’s Chief Executive Officer, John Matthews, said that the back to back win was all the more gratifying as the judges had acknowledged they had raised the standard of judging this year.

The report was written and designed inhouse.

“For the second year running we have shown that we are the best in Queensland at open accountability, disclosing relevant information, and presenting our activities in a newsy and visually attractive manner,” John Matthews said.

The report has also gained an award at the Australasian Annual Reporting Awards to be announced in Sydney on 23 May. Last year’s report gained a silver at these awards and a bronze the previous year.

“Naturally, we’re hoping to go one better and bring the gold back to Queensland this year,” John Matthews said.
