MicrOpay and Coffs Harbour team up to achieve payroll objectives *

As with most Councils, Coffs Harbour has a vast range of responsibilities and assets to manage, including tourism focused activities such as a regional airport, lifeguards and caravan parks. This diverse workforce makes the payroll and HR system an integral part of the organisation, due to the large number of special agreements. Therefore Council needed a dynamic and integrated system, which could cater for these agreements and award provisions, as well as a high volume of changes to employee details on a daily basis.

In addition, through MicrOpay’s Ingenuity, Coffs Harbour is able to input cost of plant hours at the same time as employees’ hours and then transfer these costs to the job in the finance system.

This is a very important feature of the Ingenuity solution because of Council’s responsibility of accurate costing and efficient plant management. When seeking a new payroll and HR system, Council identified the following essential requirements to meet current and long term needs.

“Initially Council looked at a broad range of systems to meet our needs however, at the time of product evaluation there were few on the market that met Council’s diverse needs,” Kyme Lavelle said. “With this in mind we chose a system, which had the greatest flexibility and negotiated with MicrOpay to be able to make enhancements. Consequently we, and other Councils, could have the payroll and HR system we wanted which meets both our short term and long term needs.”

Not only were the stated objectives achieved but Coffs Harbour City Council also gained the following.

  • New HR management tools, which enable better tracking of sick leave, workers comp, annual leave and so forth.
  • The ability to calculate and reverse a pay at any time, which enables ‘what if’ scenarios to be performed.
