Community input to park

Following a review of the proposed upgrade at the December Council Meeting, the City of South Perth resolved to continue implementing its Windsor Park Mends Street Master Plan. Implementation will include ongoing community consultation in relation to the detailed design of the public art, the amphitheatre and the improvements in Mends Street.

Concern had been expressed regarding the recent planting of the tree lined boulevard.

“We assessed all the facts, had a healthy and exhaustive debate and made an acceptable and appropriate decision based in the local and wider community interest,” said City of South Perth Mayor, John Collins.

Once developed, the improvements contained within the Plan will significantly enhance the amenity of the area for local residents and visitors.

“I would like to acknowledge the high calibre of community deputations – I was very impressed by their presentation and the way in which they brought out all the issues,” Councillor Collins said.

The works to Windsor Park will include tree planting, reticulation, establishing a Civic Gardens and a tree lined pedestrian boulevard. These will be complemented with seating, lighting, a playground and public art, including a water feature and a historic timeline detailing the development of the City of South Perth. The project also includes works at the South Perth Bowling Club, including the installation of synthetic greens and new car parking area. Works are also planned for the Old Mill Theatre to provide new seating and toilet facilities.

Work on Windsor Park will continue during 2003.
