New mobile skate ramp

Victoria’s Corangamite Shire’s new mobile skate ramp has arrived and will be in use at its first location in Lismore. After six weeks it will be moved to another Corangamite Shire town to enable another group of young people to enjoy the facility.

The Mobile Fun Box, designed and made by Skateramps Australia, is a portable skating facility offering all the safety and design features of Skateramps’ popular fixed equipment.

“Council decided to purchase the ramp after the Recreation team did some research of other mobile skating facilities available in Australia,” said Corangamite Shire Recreation, Culture and Community Facilities Manager, Trevor Greenberger. “We saw this model in action at Nhill, where the Hindmarsh Council has a mobile skate ramp. The ramp is made of metal and mounted on a trailer. It is operated with hydraulics and can be placed on a spare piece of concrete or bitumen.”

The first location for the ramp will be at the Lismore Recreation Reserve. After this Council will move it to Noorat, Derrinallum, Timboon, Simpson and Skipton.

“We decided to put the ramp on a netball court at the Recreation Reserve after talking to the Committee of Management,” Trevor Greenberger said. “We will be talking to town representatives before we decide the precise location for the ramp in each town. We will also be discussing the potential for communities to build complementary facilities.”

The Mobile Fun Box provides a variety of angles and obstacles to challenge skaters and can be neatly packed and ready to go to its next location.
