With funding from the Commonwealth Government, this exciting new playground and parkland will incorporate active, passive, interactive and educational facilities using a combination of catalogue play equipment and custom designed equipment.
“The current playground is very popular with schools and families,” said Deputy Mayor, Councillor Margaret Gill. “It is always busy but now is in need of a face lift. The new Regional Playground will be much larger providing a greater range of facilities and activities.”
The $2.6 million facility will cater for various age groups offering separate and unique play areas with a level of challenge for specific age groups. Themed ‘Life in Trinity Bay’ the playground includes water play areas with water channels and hand pumps; water gates, rain shelters and jumping water jets; plus a mud skipper sculpture.
Other play areas will provide the following.
- Pyramid climbing nets, spinning toys and mangrove maze.
- Flying fox, sound chimes, track ride, rope bridge and slides.
- Play houses, story telling areas, see-saw, trick track, puzzle games and slides.
The parkland will include a plaza area housing a Café providing snacks and light meals. Extensive scattered seating and tables will encourage passive recreation by parents and carers visiting the playground with their children. Council staff, security officers and closed circuit cameras will monitor the area in the interest of public safety.
With construction commencing in May, the playground is scheduled for completion by the end of September 2003.
