The Gateways of Cairns Project aims to enhance various entries to the City of Cairns. Council has allocated $1 million to upgrading median and roadside landscaping in sections of Mulgrave Road and Sheridan Street. These busy traffic corridors are the responsibility of State Government. Through an arrangement with the Department of Main Roads, under its Roads Maintenance Performance Contract, Cairns Works maintains the landscaping in these areas.
Council is working with the Department to provide the most effective ways to showcase entry points. Works are expected to include the following.
- Upgrading of kerbing.
- Ensuring mowing strips are an appropriate width.
- Providing high quality, low maintenance landscaping.
Council hopes to involve community groups and adjacent businesses in this project through its Partnership Cairns program. This is a sponsorship program where partners are rewarded with recognition and acknowledged as good corporate citizens. Sponsorship benefits business and community partners through the following.
- Appropriate media coverage.
- Inclusion of corporate logo and business name on any applicable signage.
- Ceremonial issuing of certificate of thanks to the Partner’s representative.
- Inclusion of the Partner’s details on Council’s website, Annual report and on a Sponsorship Board to be displayed in Council’s Administration Building.
