Liverpool City Council has launched the Liverpool Industry Network – Construction (LINC) to connect construction companies with community services and economic development to strengthen the local building industry. Liverpool, south west of Sydney, has a population of 163,500. It is expected to increase by 100,000 people over the next 20 years, making it one of the fastest growing municipalities in NSW.
Mayor George Paciullo said providing housing and services to meet this population boom would require a $10 billion investment in local building and infrastructure.
“Liverpool provides a home base for around 250 building and construction firms,” he said. “Council is committed to working with the local industry to increase opportunities for investment, innovation and jobs. LINC will enable local firms to work together to pursue opportunities, share information and be informed of new developments in the area. It will also allow industry input into planning policy decisions.”
Council hopes LINC will have the following benefits.
- A long term, viable construction industry
- A greater manufacturing capacity for the industry
- More jobs for residents
- More skilled labour
- A better urban environment
- Reduced construction costs
- Ecologically sound construction practices
- Better relationships between suppliers, subcontractors and the community.
Council has commissioned the Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) to develop LINC over the next 12 months. AMC is a non profit organisation that helps make industry more competitive by providing the tools for businesses to acquire, implement and manage new technology and management processes.
