Landscape is more than just trees and grass in Tea Tree Gully

The City of Tea Tree Gully Urban Landscape Master Plan has created a shift in Local Government thinking. Landscape is often used as an equivalent term for terrain, although in its generally accepted sense it is a much broader concept that includes visual, artistic and cultural aspects of the surface of the land as well as the physical environment.

The Urban Landscape Directions and Urban Landscape Guidelines form the principles Council will endeavour to achieve in its management, maintenance and future development of the extensive open space within the City of Tea Tree Gully. The Master Plan identifies and acknowledges the varying character zones of the City, striving towards reinforcing a sense of identity, pride and purpose.

Tea Tree Gully Council has committed approximately $400,000 towards the development of its Civic Park in the Regional Centre Character Zone identified within the Urban Landscape Master Plan.

Landscape Architect, Ben Hall, said that the objectives of the park development were to redefine Civic Park as the cultural and community heart of the City of Tea Tree Gully.

“It is also to encourage social interaction between all members of the community as well as provide for a variety of different uses and recreational opportunities,” Ben Hall said.
