Local Governments take part in world class marketing

Local Governments that participated in Harmony Day on 21 March this year will be pleased to learn their efforts, along with others in the community, have received international acclaim. On 7 June in Los Angeles, the US based International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) handed Harmony Day its prestigious Gold Quill Award for Excellence in Communications.

These US based awards have honoured excellence in business communication for more than 25 years. This year the IABC received 920 entries from 23 countries. Of the crop of 37 Excellence award winners, only eight were from outside North America.

The award recognised the work of Australian company, Maine Street Marketing, for its role in helping the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs to promote Harmony Day.

“Harmony Day was only one of two Australian programs to receive international recognition,” said Maine Street’s Marketing Director, Bob Crawshaw. “It is also recognition for the many Local Governments and community groups that have grown Harmony Day in size and significance since it stated five years ago.”

Maine Street Marketing (www.mainestreet.com.au) specialises in grassroots communications, community relations and social marketing.
